Soft Beginnings
Thank you for joining us. This program uses meditation, gentle movements, and management strategies to explore what it feels like to be aware and respectful of your energy when you have chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS). Across the 1tensessions, we look at reducing energy demand, making the most available energy, and better understanding and ppractisingpacing, proprioception, and PEM management. We hope you can find multiple ways to rest that feel nourishing and help your quality of life.
Please celebrate your individuality. Research shows there are sub-groupings within the ME/CFS community, and each of us has our history and preferences. Our bodies and brains are doing a lot in managing this complex, multi-systemic illness with symptoms such as autonomic dysfunction, cognitive impairment, muscle pains and fatigue, and Post Exertional Malaise (PEM). For people with severe ME/CFS, please be very cautious and do not do the gentle movements (perhaps just imagine them). Please consider if meditations alone may be beneficial, but only if you can tolerate auditory input. We send our best wishes and hope the website may be a helpful information and support for you (or your carer) even if you are not doing the program.
If you have moderate to mild or fluctuating ME/CFS, please enjoy SOFT BEGINNINGS as a degustation, with a range of ideas to sample from. Rest often and whenever you choose. You can do the sessions on a mat, in your recliner, or propped on a cushion in bed. Do only the things you think suit you on that particular day (due to variations, this may be pretty minimal some days). Be mindful not to trigger any difficulties afterwards. We are exploring if less can be more. When your brain and body feel safe, relaxed, and curious, you can set the stage for brain plasticity and the possibility of a change in quality of life. You may do one or two sessions a week or take your time more leisurely.
The companion Guide can be downloaded and printed. It provides themes, opportunities for reflection, and valuable tips but no outcomes to attain or definitive answers. Instead, the guide is there to accompany you, engender curiosity for new options, and assist you through the program. Hopefully, you will find ways to individualise both the guide and sessions to benefit your well-being and embrace your personal exploration and management styles.
